Police identify officer who shot homeless man

REDDING, Calif. -

Police officials released the name of the officer involved in a Dec. 18 shooting incident in which 39-year-old Joseph Galbraith was shot under the Cypress Street Bridge.

According to a press release issued Tuesday, Kenneth Marks was named as the uniformed police officer who shot Galbraith.

Marks has been with the Redding Police Department since June of 2006 and has prior law enforcement experience with another California agency.

Officer Marks has been cleared to return to full duty.

Galbraith, who was homeless at the time of the shooting, was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of his injury following the incident.

Galbraith survived and due to being admitted to the hospital he was released from custody pending a criminal complaint being filed with the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.
