Police: Multiple hit-and-run incidents caused by same driver
REDDING, Calif. -

Redding police and the California Highway Patrol are investigating at least three hit-and-run incidents they say were caused by the same driver.

It all started around 2 p.m. Sunday when CHP dispatchers received reports that a stop sign had been destroyed in the area of I-5 and Bowman Road.

As officers were looking for the person responsible - two other reports came in - one to the CHP reporting a hit-and-run in the area of I-5 and South Bonnyview Road, the other to Redding police reporting a vehicle was doing donuts and had hit a van in the K-Mart parking lot on Cypress Avenue.

Multiple agencies began searching for the suspect vehicle - an older model white Crown Victoria with a peeling "Ranger" star on the side - which was eventually located parked along South Bonnyview Road.

Police say the suspect - whose name has not yet been released - then caught a ride to a home in the 4100 block of East Bonnyview Road.

It's there where police finally caught up with him. But, rather than take him to jail, they had to call an ambulance, after the suspect told them he had taken a large quantity of prescription pills.

What led to the strange series of events remains under investigation. Charges are pending, according to police.
