Police search for son after father shot in the head

CHICO, Calif. -

Chico Police are searching for 27-year-old Harry Thomas Akerson who reportedly shot his father in the head. It happened at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at an apartment complex at 1110 Nord Avenue.

Akerson is described as a white 5-foot-7-inch tall man, 150 pounds with a shaved head and blue eyes.  He is wanted for attempted murder.

Police said Akerson may be driving a silver or tan Jeep Liberty and was last seen headed northbound on Nord Avenue.  The vehicle has a license plate number 5SXD214.  It may have a cracked windshield.

Neighbors reported hearing the men yelling before the shooting happened.  The father, 50-year-old Harry Tapp, was shot with a handgun.  Officers found Tapp outside the apartment building bleeding.

Tapp was taken to Enloe Medical Center where he underwent surgery.  As of Thursday afternoon Tapp was listed in serious condition.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.  Anyone with information about his whereabouts is advised to call police immediately and do not approach him.

CLARIFICATION: The wanted man's last name is Akerson. A previous version of this story identified him as Ackerson. The Chico Police Department released the wrong name in a their first press release.
