Police: Shoplifting suspect hit Wal-Mart employee with belt

A woman was arrested on a series of charges after allegedly assaulting a Wal-Mart employee who tried to stop her from shoplifting, and then threatening officers.
Sandra Pickett, 34, was arrested Monday afternoon after Anderson Police spotted her pushing a shopping cart filled with Wal-Mart merchandise toward an apartment complex.
It started just after 2 p.m. Monday, when Anderson Police were dispatched to the Anderson Wal-Mart for a reported shoplifter who was leaving the store with a shopping cart full of stolen merchandise.
When officers arrived on scene, loss prevention personnel directed police to a field north of the business where they said Pickett was pushing the shopping cart.
Wal-Mart employees told police Pickett used a leather belt to repeatedly strike a loss prevention officer who tried to stop her from leaving the store with the merchandise..
The merchandise totaled several hundred dollars. Anderson Police said Pickett admitted to striking employees with the belt. She was taken to the Shasta County Jail where she was booked for robbery.
Police said during the booking process, Pickett made specific criminal threats to the involved officers and was also booked for a threatening a peace officer.
