Preparations for Redding's fireworks show are underway.
Redding has one of the biggest shows in all of Northern California; right up there with the Bay Area and Sacramento.
Barry Renn, the show's lead pyrotechnician, said they'll have "a variety of styles, colors and patterns from happy faces to Saturn shells to stars to rings, to multiple rings."
Renn and his eight person crew, called Pyro Spectacular, made the trek from the Sacramento area to put on the show for the 6th year.
They work around the clock all week preparing for the 22 minute show.
"The show has about 1,330 shells in it, including 100 8-inch shells," Renn said.
The production costs about $80,000 and is specially choreographed to patriotic music.
A "radio station will broadcast the music to everyone in the crowd," Renn told us, "we hear cues so it tells us when to fire each shell and everybody else hears the music."
Renn said it's the end of the show that makes it all worth it.
"It's nice at the very end of the show to hear the crowd cheering," he told us, "that tells us that we did a good job and they're happy with what they saw."
Redding's show starts at 10 p.m. on Thursday.
