Since the month of March began, the Shasta Mosquito and Vector Control District has been busy checking different areas for mosquitoes in an attempt to control the mosquito population.

The public health agency said the West Nile Virus has been in Shasta County since 2003 and since then, the district has taken extra caution with controlling the pests.

They not only do rounds in different areas to check ponds, but they also introduce mosquito-eating fish into ponds.

The district said the worst time for mosquitoes is June through early August.
