RED BLUFF, Calif. -

The Red Bluff Police Department has been awarded a $131,817.96 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety for a year-long program aimed at preventing deaths and injuries on our roadways.

The Red Bluff Police Department is going to use the funding as part of an on-going commitment to keep our roadways safe through both enforcement and education.

Captain Kyle Sanders said that due to this grant, for the first time in recent history, the Red Bluff Police Department will have two dedicated traffic officers.

Sanders also said they will have a zero tolerance approach to distracted driving violations. These violations would include talking on a cellular device and texting while driving.

Activities that the grant will fund include: specialized DUI and drugged driving training, seat belt and child safety seat enforcement, compilation of DUI "Hot Sheets" identifying worst-of-worst DUI offenders, and many others.
