With forecast temperatures in excess of 100 degrees over the next week, the American Red Cross is working with local emergency and public health officials and is prepared to open cooling centers if requested.
The Red Cross offers tips to keep you and your family safe before and during a heat event.
· Gather personal items that you may need to bring with you in the event that you leave your home for a cooler place.
· Become trained in First Aid to learn how to treat heat-related emergencies.
· Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol.
· Avoid going outdoors during the hottest part of the day, take frequent breaks if you must be outdoors.
