The fire that burned in the area of El Camino Robles and Camino del Encino just off of Placer Road could have been much worse, according to CAL FIRE Battalion Chief Lance Berry.
Firefighters responded with an arsenal of engines and aircraft that dropped water and retardant while ground crews marched in. But other than the hard work firefighters put in, Chief Berry also said that clearance around the houses played a big role.
“Most of these houses in the neighborhood have really good clearance so that helps with 100 feet of defensible space. It definitely worked today," said Berry.
The clearance prevented the 45-acre fire from taking out nearby homes. Even though no structures were lost this time CAL FIRE has a reminder for everyone as the fire season continues.
"You do always wanna be ready to evacuate," Berry said. "That's another recommendation I would have is, regardless of what’s happening, regardless, if you decide to stay you should have a plan and have things ready to go and evacuate."
Three engines and two crews were at the scene on Monday mopping up after the fire. CAL FIRE said they should be done by tomorrow.
