A full scale search for an at-risk missing Chico man got underway in Upper Bidwell Park Saturday afternoon.
Helicopters, ATVs, K-9 units and crews on foot are scouring the land for any sign of 40-year-old Michael Gundlach.
A welfare check was performed at Gundlach's residence Friday afternoon and no trace of him was found.
Friday evening around 9:30 his vehicle was found in a parking lot in Upper Bidwell Park east of Horseshoe Lake. The vehicle is thought to have been there since Wednesday.
Saturday afternoon, Chico police requested the help of the Butte County Search and Rescue team to help in the search.
"There's no indication that there's any foul play involved," says Sergeant Matt Madden with the Chico Police Department. "We do know during our investigation that he has been depressed, which makes us concerned for his safety. And that's why we're considering him an at risk missing person and conducting this search here in the park today."
Chico police volunteers have also been stopping vehicles at the entrance to Upper Bidwell Park, showing pictures of Gundlach and asking visitors to keep an eye out.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chico Police Department at 530-895-4911.
