Second arrest made in Siskiyou County Court House theft

YREKA, Calif. -

A second arrest was made on Thursday in the ongoing investigation of the Siskiyou County Court House gold theft.

During the early morning hours of January 31, 2012. $1,257,500 in gold, jewelry and artifacts were taken in the burglary and theft.

The Siskiyou County District Attorney previously charged two men with burglarizing the Siskiyou County Courthouse in late March. They were David Dean Johnson, 49, of El Cerrito, and Scott Wayne Bailey, 51, of El Sobrante.

Johnson turned himself in on April 1 and had his preliminary hearing on April 15.

Johnson remains in custody in the Siskiyou County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail. He is set to return to court on August 8 for various motions and to set a new trial date.

Bailey was arrested on Thursday on an outstanding arrest warrant by authorities in San Pablo. He will be transferred to the Siskiyou County Jail soon where he will be held to answer for the same burglary, theft and conspiracy charges that Johnson faces.
