Two men escaped serious injury after their semi-truck barreled off Interstate 5 and into an apartment complex parking lot in Corning.
The California Highway Patrol is blaming distracted driving for this crash. They say the driver, 49-year-old Jasvir Gill, was trying to change a CD in his stereo, which caused the crash.
"There was no stopping it because the angle it was going...it would have hit my apartment. That's what I was freaking out about," said Sara Coulter.
Coulter saw the crash unfold. She was standing on the balcony at her friend's house around 8:45 a.m.
Coulter rushed down to make sure everyone was okay. She found Gill and a passenger inside. She and some friends started taking apart the windshield to get them out.
"He kicked it out and me and a couple of other guys pulled the windshield and got him out," said Coulter.
Both Gill and his passenger walked away with a few scratches. The truck was hauling meat at the time. The CHP advises everyone to pay attention while behind the wheel.
