CHICO, Calif. -

A Chico man is getting a rare opportunity to share his story on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Sergio Garcia is an undocumented immigrant who passed the state bar, but has been barred from practicing law because of his status.

Garcia admitted that he doesn't watch The Daily Show very often, but he is excited to share his story with Jon Stewart and his audience.

Garcia was called two weeks ago to see if he would like to come out to New York and tell Stewart his story.

Garcia came to the US illegally as a toddler.  He passed the California state bar exam on his first try, but he cannot open a practice unless he gets a law license.  He cannot do that unless he is a US citizen.

The committee overseeing the bar recommended that he be granted membership.

Garcia has been interviewed by the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times and has appeared on many national news shows in both English and Spanish.

"I'm humbled by every opportunity and I’m very grateful for every opportunity I get.  I'm looking forward to it and meeting Jon. I hear nothing but great things about him so I’m looking forward to it,” said Garcia.

Garcia said that he has a flight leaving out of Chico on Wednesday at 5 a.m. and he will spend all day traveling to New York.

Garcia has been encouraging Governor Jerry Brown to sign AB 1024, a bill that would ultimately give Garcia his law license.

Garcia could not tell us when the show will air but he did say that it will be pushed back until next week because he said the show is doing an extended interview with him.
