A Bella Vista woman is in jail after deputies say she shot her husband. Just after 12:30 a.m. Monday, Shasta County deputies were called out to a house on Lewis Lane in Bella Vista.
Ralph Edwards, 66, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the midsection.
He told deputies his wife, 56-year-old Joy Edwards had shot him. Deputies had been to the home earlier Sunday night to mediate and argument between the husband and wife.
Deputies said Joy Edwards refused to come out after the shooting,
Deputies said they called into the house via a patrol car’s loudspeaker and asked Mrs. Edwards to come out. At the same time Joy was on the phone with a SHASCOM dispatcher. The dispatcher was also telling Edwards to come out of the house and surrender to the deputies outside.
Edwards refused to come out and would occasionally come to the open front door and yell obscenities at the deputies.
Negotiations went on for over an hour until Edwards walked out her front door and off the porch. She was told to stop but she turned back towards the house. In an effort to keep her from going back into the house where she had access to firearms, she was shot twice with less- lethal bean bag rounds from a shotgun.
Edwards was taken into custody and after being medically cleared was booked into the Shasta County Jail for attempted murder.
