Mass shooting at Cedarville Rancheria in Alturas

REDDING, Calif. -

According to the Modoc County Record there has been a shooting at the Cedarville Rancheria tribal office building at 300 West First Street in Alturas.

Police told the Record, the suspect was the subject of an eviction hearing being held by the Cedarville Rancheria in their tribal office Thursday evening when she stood up and started shooting. Four people were shot then an unidentified victim tried to run and was also shot.

The shooter then ran out of ammunition and picked up a butcher knife from the kitchen and attacked a sixth victim.

The Record reports four dead from gunshot wounds and two people injured.

Multiple law enforcement agencies and first responders were on scene. There is a female suspect in custody.

According to the Cedarville Rancheria website they are a small Federally Recognized Tribe comprised of 35 tribal members.
