GERBER, Calif. -

Students at Gerber Elementary kicked off Red Ribbon Week by having a special assembly with their very own, Univision star, Daniel Munoz .

Daniel Munoz, also known as El Ausente which means the absentee in Spanish, grew up in Gerber, and is the winner of a national singing contest held by the Spanish language channel, Univision.

Starting last year, the singer has visited Gerber Elementary, to remind students about the importance of staying drug-free.

Munoz performed in part of the assembly and during this part, he let students participate and sing along.

Gerber Elementary students said even though the assembly was fun, they also learned an important lesson.

Tommy Rodriquez, a sixth grader at Gerber elementary said Daniel Munoz is his role model and he has learned a lot from Munoz.

“Red Ribbon Week is all about drug free and drug free means, stay away from drugs and like Daniel Munoz said, when you see drugs just run away from them and never look back.”
