A blaze in southeast Redding Sunday afternoon burned through brush and dry grass before fire crews were able to halt its spread.
The fire off of Goodwater Ave near Rancho Rd started around 1:15 p.m.
According to a Calfire official at the scene, 8 to 10 acres were charred.
The fire burned onto property ownded by Valley Christian Fellowship, but fortunately never really came close to the church.
“We saw the fire trucks come down our street and I looked over and said, "that's got to be over at the church." so I raced over here,” says Church Elder Steve MacFarland. “We came out to check and see and sure enough it had burned on to the north end of our property. (We) drug one of our hoses out of the garden here but the fire trucks, they were right here on the scene. “
About a half acre of grass burned on the church property.
A home next door, where a youth minister lives, was also breifly threatened.
Units from CALFIRE, Anderson and Redding fire departments responded.
No injuries have been reported and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
