Speedy response prevents spread of Tehama County garage fire
A quick response allowed firefighters to save much of a home in Tehama County.
The fire broke out south of Corning at 4100 Kirkwood Dr. The man living there said he walked out to his attached garage around 9:15 Saturday morning and saw his Ford Expedition SUV was on fire. He hurried everyone out of the house.
CAL FIRE officials said a Tehama County fire engine happened to be driving by. They were the first engine to attack the flames and likely prevented it from spreading much further.
More crews arrived, including CAL FIRE engines, and they eventually knocked down the flames about 45 minutes later.
There were no reported injuries.
There was severe smoke and heat damage to the house. Fire investigators are still looking into the cause of the blaze.
