Norway's Ole Einar Bjoerndalen won a gold medal in Saturday's 10-kilometer biathlon sprint, giving him a total of 12 Olympic medals, tying the all-time total for Winter Olympics medals.

He shares the record with retired Norwegian cross-country skier Bjorn Daehlie, who won 12 medals from 1992 through 1998.

Included in Bjoerndalen's Olympic medal count is six golds won in 1998, 2002 and 2010. The 40-year-old made his Olympic debut in 1994 in Lillehammer, Norway, and is competing in his sixth Winter Olympics. He will have several opportunities to break the all-time record in Sochi.

Dominik Landertinger of Austria won the silver medal in the race and Jaroslav Soukup of the Czech Republic took home bronze.
