Chicago Blackhawks stars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are both seeking salaries of $12 million per year, TSN reported Thursday.

Right winger Kane and center Toews are eligible to sign extensions on Tuesday for the 2015-16 season.

Toews and Kane each have one year remaining on their existing contracts. They signed identical five-year, $31.5 million contracts prior to the 2010-11 season that pays them each $6.3 million annually.

In 76 games with the Blackhawks this season, Toews scored 28 goals and added 40 assists. He scored nine goals and 17 points in 19 playoff games.

Kane, 25, scored 29 goals and added 40 assists in 69 games. He added eight goals and 20 points in 19 playoff games.

Toews, 26, was drafted third overall in the 2006 draft by the Blackhawks. Kane was drafted first overall in the 2007 draft.

Washington's Alex Ovechkin currently leads the NHL with an average salary of $9.53 million, with Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin at $9.5 million.

Kane and Toews could push past the $10 million barrier -- a first in the salary cap era.
