HAMILTON CITY, Calif. -

The Glenn County Sheriff's Office has identified the body found by three teenagers who were swimming in Stony Creek near the Mill's Orchard area on Apr. 12. They are treating the case as a homicide.

The teens discovered the decomposing body in shallow water on the north side of the Glenn County creek at which point they called police.

On Friday morning, the Glenn County Sheriff's Office classified the death of Michael Castillo Perea, 37, of Willows as a homicide. Deputies said that Perea was well-known in Hamilton City as well as Willows.

The final cause of death is still pending toxicology testing results. The investigation is ongoing and investigators are attempting to determine whether Perea was killed at the location or dumped in the creek.

The sheriff's department asks that anyone with information contact Sheriff's Detective Greg Felton at 934-6431.
