According to the Shasta County Health Department, it really comes down to the type of fluids you drink.
Officials said children need to drink lots of water and juices, leaving the high sugar drinks on the shelf. In addition, it is a good idea to keep a close eye on the backpacks your kids are lugging home.
Some bags can weigh as much as 40 lbs. when loaded with textbooks and notebooks -- a lot for anyone to carry when the temperatures peak over 100 degrees.
Of course, officials also say that everything is relative. Each child will be able to handle the heat differently and could be affected by it in very different ways.
