On Tuesday morning the Shasta County Board of Supervisors approved an emergency ordinance that victims of the Clover Fire will not have to conform to current zoning standards.
Homeowners can rebuild based on their original standards when they first built their home.
The driving force behind the plan is to help victims save money and speed up the rebuilding process.
There will still be rules but the hope is to have a little relief from current government regulations.
Marvin Graves, who lives on Gas Point Road lost his home of more than 20 years to the Clover Fire.
His home, along with 67 other, now reduced to mangled metal and melted memories.
With no insurance he's at a loss for what to do next.
"Just kinda playin it by ear," said Graves.
A timber faller, he lost some of his equipment to the fire and recently had surgery on a broken leg.
"Hell at my age it's hard to start over."
On Tuesday he learned about the county's plan to let homeowners rebuild based on their previous zoning standards.
The news brought Graves a piece of mind.
"I'll tell ya what anything helps ya know."
Shasta County Supervisor Leonard Moty said the county has reached out to the state for support and plan to do what they can to get people help.
"Streamline the process, remove some of the burdens and get them back into a house or home as soon as possible," said Moty.
Graves believes others will benefit too.
"There's a lot of people out here that need this more than I do."
He said he knows this is a long road and he's thankful for all the support he's gotten.
"I have a super good family, I'm blessed that way."
Moty said the county is willing to work with people to get some temporary permits and other plans for their property.
The US Small Business Administration also announced they'll be offering low interest loans for rebuilding.
Wednesday and Thursday the county will have a resource center for victims to get more information from the county and non-profits.
It will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Shasta County Administration Center in Redding at 1450 Court Street.
