Suspect arrested after shining spotlight on CHP airplane
A suspect was arrested in Redding after reportedly shining a spotlight at a CHP aircraft. The incident happened Wednesday, December 11 at 5:05 p.m.
Travis Sweig, 40, was arrested on a series of charges.
According to a CHP news release, A CHP airplane was assisting an allied agency in the area of Hartnell and Churn Creek Road in Redding.
A powerful spotlight illuminated the aircraft and cockpit, affecting the pilot’s vision and causing an unsafe condition.
The CHP dispatched an officer to locate the source of the spotlight. Officers located the suspect and a large spotlight that was plugged into the cigarette lighter in the suspect’s truck.
Officers said the suspect had the engine running to get maximum power out of the light. The officer also located two loaded firearms and drug paraphernalia.
The CHP reminds the public it is illegal and unsafe to spotlight or illuminate an aircraft.
