Teen accidentally shot in the face with a handgun
A 16-year-old boy is recovering after accidentally being shot in the face Monday night with a revolver.
According to Shasta County Sheriff Sgt. St. Clair, the teen was shot in the cheek. The incident happened inside a home on the 22000 block of Cassel Road in Shasta County around 5:30 p.m. Sgt. St. Clair says the teen's uncle accidentally discharged a handgun revolver, forgetting it was loaded. Officials also say the gun used is illegal in California, because it shoots .410 caliber shotgun shells.
The teen was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. Officials say while the teen was being taken to the hospital, he was responsive. The teen is expected to make a full recovery.
Although the incident appears accidental, it will be submitted to the Shasta County D.A.’s Office. The uncle could face charges.
