REDDING, Calif. -

A 13-year-old girl from Redding is supporting a family friend recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Katelyn Peterson shaved her head to remind her friend, Lisa Franks that she isn’t alone.

"I wanted her, just by looking at me, without having to tell her, I wanted her to be able to look at me and know that I’m supporting her," said Peterson.

Peterson said she decided to lose her hair when she found out her family friend, Lisa Franks was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“I didn't really know how it affected you until she got it and I felt like she needed to know," said Peterson.

Peterson went to a local hair salon last Friday and shaved all her hair off.
Her mother, Jessica Peterson said she was surprised when Katelyn told her what she wanted to do.

"She's 13 years old, they’re at the age where they’re more concerned everybody thinks of them, so to do something so huge it was just amazing," said Jessica Peterson.

Jessica said Katelyn even inspired her. "I cut off 112 inches to present the braid to our friend."

"I feel like I was born to do something to help others and to support them so this is what I'm gonna do,” said Peterson.

Katelyn also is working on putting a team together so that they can be a part of "Relay For Life" this year.

Katelyn has set up a team called: Kids4Healing on Relay For Life. For more information you can contact her on kids4healing@yahoo.com.
