Tehama CAL FIRE uses controlled burns to reduce fires this season

LOS MOLINOS, Calif. -

CAL FIRE burned about 300 acres on Wednesday in Los Molinos to try to eliminate some of the heavier fuels that could send a wildfire out of control.

This is the second controlled burn of the season for Tehama CAL FIRE and officials say it is important to get these burns in sooner rather than later.

"If we're in a brushier area with a lot of trees, you want to get all the extra fuel out there cause if there's a fire, the less fuel there is, the less intense the fire's gonna be," said CAL FIRE Information Officer Kevin Colburn.

CAL FIRE said the burning also gives firefighters extra training. A crew of 60 was involved today.
