Tehama County brings back their fireworks show

Tehama County brings back their fireworks show

After having the Tehama County fireworks show canceled last year due to a lack of funding, a small but mighty group of concerned citizens stepped up to bring the show back for this year’s Fourth of July.

“I can’t not have fireworks that’s crazy I need my kid to understand why Independence Day is so important, “ said Tehama County Fireworks Committee President Shannon Nason.

After a big disappointment in 2012, Nason was determined to have a fireworks show in red bluff for the next Fourth of July. She formed the Tehama County Fireworks Committee, and with about a dozen volunteers coordinated ways to raise funds for the show.

Since august of 2012, they have raised $15,000.00, all thanks to the generosity of the community.  Each minute costs $1,000.00 so this year their show will be 15 minutes long.

The show will be at the Red Bluff River Park over the water and the fireworks will be set off behind the Elks Lodge.  Nason believes this is an event that is important for the whole community.

“Our country is so great, if we stop celebrating we are going to forget and that’s not okay with me. I think most people feel that way,” said Nason.

The committee is already working to gather money for next year’s celebration.  They are trying to make 2014 a thirty minute show.

Their group is fiscally sponsored by The American Legion Raisner Post No. 45.  For more information on how you can support the committee visit their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/Tehamafireworks?ref=ts&fref=ts
