WILLOWS, Calif. -

A Glenn County toddler is dead after drowning in a canal.  It happened Monday around 9:30 p.m.

Around 8:25 p.m., the Glenn County Sheriff's Office received a report from the child's mother, Bambi Ramirez, of a missing two-year-old in the Bayliss area.

Ramirez said her two-year-old son, Jonathan Perez, wandered off while at the home with other siblings and an adult when she was not at home.

The child's body was found in an irrigation ditch across the street by volunteers. The ditch was about four feet deep and full of murky water.

One neighbor, Rodney Abold, said this was not the first time this happened in this area.

"A toddler died not too long ago on[County Road] V.  It's horrible and I feel sorry for the parents because I know what they are going through," said Abold.

After an irrigation gate was opened, the child was located. The volunteers attempted to save the child but when emergency responders arrived on the scene, Perez was declared dead.
