The Cascade Theater in Redding was jumping Wednesday night with the soulful sounds of Tower of Power and on Thursday, they are playing in Chico.
Tower of Power started in the East Bay area as a rock band doing covers of the Rolling Stones and other bands. Then they discovered soul music and the band's distinctive sound was born.
I had the chance to sit down with Tower of Power's founder Emilio Castillo in the Green Room before they went on stage.
Formed in 1968, Tower of Power just celebrated 45 years of music. The band tours 200 days a year and, similar to the Grateful Dead's "Deadheads" and Jimmy Buffet's "Parrotheads," there are "Tower Freaks" all over the world.
