REDDING, Calif. -

In a couple of weeks, the number of uninsured people in the Northstate should start to drop.

The open period to sign up for Covered California subsidized private health insurance begins October 1. On September 16, Shasta Community Health Center CEO Dean Germano said there are 40,000 uninsured people in Shasta County right now.

If you have questions -- and almost everyone does -- there will be a town hall meeting for the local implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

It is called "Covered Shasta" and the meeting will be on Thurs., Sept. 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Shasta County Board of Supervisors Chambers in the County Administration building on Court St.

Dean Germano will be there along with Shasta County Health and Human Services Director Donell Ewert, an insurance agent and a representative from Covered California.

They will be explaining how it will work and will be answering questions.
