CHICO, Calif. -

Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chico received a 1929 Shoenstein pipe organ about seven years ago after a church in Piedmont donated it.  After about $6,000 in refurbishing costs the church now owns a lovely-sounding addition to its parish hall.

"We find the pipe organ very inspiring," said the Reverend Donald Jordan, the pastor at Redeemer.  "It helps bring people to the Glory of God with this instrument."

Organist Dan Gates refurbished the organ.

"I've always been amazed at how creative those craftsmen were back in those days," said Gates. "Building them was quite an art."

On Sunday Feb. 9, two organists, Gates and Jay Erwin, will play a concert to benefit the Work Training Center inside the church's parish hall.  And it won't be just church music, as non-religious tunes will also come from the 85-year-old pipes.

The concert begins at 3:00 p.m.
