Stolen doughnut delivery van crashes, catches fire near Redding

REDDING, Calif. -

A donut delivery van stolen from a Redding truck stop early Monday, crashed and burst into flames less than three hours later.

The van was reported stolen around 2:45 a.m. Monday from the TA Truck Stop on Knighton Road in south Redding.

The CHP said officers took a report after the Heavenly Donut delivery van was taken. 

Then at 5:19 a.m. the van ran off Highway 299W  near Swasey Drive west of Redding.

The van hit a tree and caught fire.

The driver, 34-year-old Benjamine Green, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.  He suffered major injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he was taken into surgery.

One lane of the road was blocked by emergency vehicles.  The scene was cleared just after 7 a.m.
