OROVILLE, Calif. -

Two women had to be airlifted to the hospital Wednesday after suffering major injuries in a rollover crash on Highway 149 just south of the Highway 99 interchange.

The CHP says the accident happened around 3 p.m. the women were traveling northbound on the roadway when they were cut off by a black Volkswagon Jetta.

"The driver of the black Jetta made an unsafe lane change, we don't know the reasons for," said Oroville CHP Officer Doug Garrett at the scene. "The lane change was made, cut off and hit the green Chevy, causing that driver to lose control. She spun out and wound up rolling over several times, causing some major injury."

Northbound Highway 149 was reduced to one lane and the crash is expected to impact drivers until about 6 p.m. while the CHP takes measurements and investigates.

The female driver of the Jetta was unhurt and her vehicle suffered minor damage.

Officer Garrett said they will determine if she'll face any consequences once they finish the investigation.
