Two brothers are skateboarding across America, and their first rest stop was right here in the Northstate.
Chuck Swafford, 28, and his older brother Ruben Duran, 32, are on a four-month long journey skateboarding nearly 4,000 miles to New York City, raising money to help end child hunger.
The brothers began their trek across America in Portland, Ore. on April 22 with their skateboards and 60 lbs. of gear on their backs. Their goal is to raise $1,000 and so far they are about a quarter of the way there.
According to Michelle Escobar, a family friend, Chuck and Ruben grew up in Concho, Ariz. They believe child hunger is a problem in America. Their inspiration for this long journey stems from growing up around children who have suffered and lived in impoverished conditions.
Chuck and Ruben are camping most of the way and expect to arrive in New York City sometime in August. On Thursday both brother's left from Shingletown, Calif. and are headed to Reno, Nev. for the next stop in their trip.
