Two Redding bodybuilders are in Las Vegas to compete in the world championship.
For one, it's a comeback. For the other, it's a hobby that has turned into something serious.
Ed White has been a personal trainer in Redding for 30 years. He is celebrating his 48th birthday at Planet Hollywood in the city of Las Vegas, but not to party, to participate in a world bodybuilding competitions.
Sin City is where bodybuilders from nearly 30 other countries will be competing against White for titles in a number of categories.
White first won the masters middleweight and overall championship in Chico. That qualified him for the state championship, which he also won.
Despite what the average person may think, trophies don't just go to the biggest body builder.
Christie Patterson is a veteran bodybuilder who also works at Everyday Fitness. She won a competition in Florida in May that qualified her for the world championship.
Patterson said she is competing in order to be a role model for women.
The competition looks at build, marketability, stage presence, and keeps a keen eye out for contenders who can model clothes, sporting goods, and promote nutrition shops and colognes.
