CHICO, Calif. -

Chico police Saturday night arrested a man who allegedly robbed two other stores in the past week after store clerks thwarted a third robbery attempt and wrestled a gun from him.

Police were called to the report of a robbery in progress at the Sierra Wine and Deli on Park Ave in Chico Saturday night just after 9:15 p.m.

A clerk there told police that the suspect had a gun and they were able to disarm him after a brief struggle.

Police arrived and took 63-year-old Douglas Friedrich of Paradise into custody.

Friedrich is thought to be the same man who robbed the Shell Station on Oro Dam Blvd in Oroville Thursday night and the Circle K 76 on Park Ave in Chico Friday night.

Police say the clothing and gun used during the robbery appear to be the same used in the previous two heists.

Friedrich was booked into the Butte County Jail on two counts of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
