The Deer Fire burning in Tehama County hasĀ  consumed 10,378 acres and as of Monday evening it's 70% contained.

The fire was sparked Friday afternoon about 10 miles east of Los Molinos in the foothills.

On Monday night CAL FIRE said significant progress has been made on the fire.

Throughout the day on Monday 676 fire personnel were shuttled into the remote area by using heavy lift helicopters from the National Guard, including Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters.

The fire continues to burn in rugged terrain and in a section of the Ishi Wilderness.

Lori Mathiesen, with CAL FIRE, said the work of ground crews has been crucial and getting them to the area by air is efficient.

It takes more than 2 hours to get to the area by vehicle and around 30 minutes by air.

There are 1,305 total personnel working on the fire.

Firefighters now expect to have the fire contained Thursday, rather than Friday, the original estimate.
