On Sunday, at 12:07 a.m. Redding Police said Officer Landreth spotted a stolen 1985 Toyota pickup driving in the area of Victor Avenue and East Cypress Avenue.  The pickup was occupied by three white male adults.  Officer Landreth was joined by Officers Townsley and Ellis along with his K-9 partner Tarro.

According to police a traffic stop was attempted but the pickup fled from Officers.

The suspect driving the pickup attempted to leave the roadway and drive into a field off of Knighton Road west of Airport Road.  The pickup became inoperable and came to a stop.  All three suspects attempted to flee on foot from the pickup.

According to Corporal Jon Polestski, the driver Leonard Michael Cromp Jr., 21, of Anderson was taken into custody with the help of K-9 Tarro, while attempting to flee the pickup.  The other two occupants fled into a field near by.  A search was conducted and one of the other suspects was located hiding in the field.  He was identified as Calvin Cory Richison, 19, of Redding.

The third suspect was not located and is only described as a white male adult.

Poletski said Cromp was treated at Shasta Regional Medical center for a dog bite wound and later booked into the Shasta County Jail for vehicle theft, felony evading, resisting arrest and a probation violation.  Cromp is on AB 109 post supervision release.  Richison was arrested for obstructing and delaying an officer.  He was later booked into the Shasta County Jail.

Through the night Poletski said RPD recovered three other stolen vehicles. Erik Daniel Ovist, 26, of Redding was arrested for vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle after he allegedly fled on foot during a traffic stop on a 2002 Toyota Avalon.  Police said the traffic stop was conducted because the vehicle had stolen plates on it.  It was later determined that the vehicle was reported stolen on June 13, 2013.  Ovist also had a felony warrant for his arrest.  He was later booked at the Shasta County Jail.

Joshua Anthony Azevedo, 28, of Manton was also arrested after he was allegedly  seen driving a stolen 1999 Ford F-250 pickup southbound on Highway 273. A traffic stop was conducted and Azevedo was taken into custody without incident for vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.  Azevedo was booked into the Shasta County Jail.

Another traffic stop was conducted on an allegedly stolen 2012 Nissan Frontier Pickup on Grandview Avenue and Hillcrest Street. However the driver fled on foot in the area and was not located.  He was described as being in his early 20’s wearing dark clothing.

The Redding Police Department would like to remind citizens to lock and secure there vehicles and property.

Anyone with information on these cases are asked to give Redding Police a call.
