REDDING, Calif. -

A big celebration was held Friday morning in Redding, complete with a military fly-over, and lots of dignitaries.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Veterans Home in Redding marked the culmination of a long-anticipated project.  The first four residents moved in Tuesday at the brand new home on Knighton Road.

The public was invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday at 10 a.m..  The ceremony included a long list of dignitaries, including the Secretary of Veterans Affairs Peter Gravett, State Senator Jim Nielsen, and retired Senator Maurice Johannessen.

There were many vintage style military vehicles on display, helicopters,  a ceremonial band and a 2-plane military flyover.

The celebration continues Saturday with a community open house.  The Asphalt Cowboys will serve a BBQ lunch, and there will be music.  Visitors can tour the 160-bed facility.

KRCR News Channel 7's Mike Mangas was at the grand opening Friday, and will have a full report tonight on KRCR News Channel 7.
