REDDING, Calif. -

A Redding man is in critical condition with a fractured skull after an assault outside a Redding bar.

It happened just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday outside Johnny's Bar on California Street in Redding.

Witnesses said the suspect threatened to stab a bartender, before being escorted out of the building by 25-year-old employee Anthony Hallman.

Once outside witnesses said the suspect, 30-year-old Robert Vanryn of Fort Jones, punched the two men in the face knocking them both unconscious.

Vanryn ran from the scene.  Police tracked him down about an hour later in the area of Tehama Street and Pine Street.

Vanryn was arrested on a series of charges including felony battery, assault likely to cause great bodily injury and terrorist threats.

Hallman was listed in stable condition at the hospital.  Police said Donaldson has a fractured skull and has not regained consciousness.
