Not only did Vista Middle School change its name to Vista Preparatory Academy but it is also planning to start teaching sixth grade along with seventh and eighth grades.
The middle school has also gotten rid of different classroom periods.
“We are moving towards a school within a school model where we have seven house teams,” said Principal Isaac Sharaga.
Those house teams will be divided by grades and will have one teacher for each 30 students. Students at the academy said they think it is a great idea.
“I feel like it’s easier to keep up on your class work instead of having to switch around; it will be easier to keep grades up,” said Alexa De La Rosa, a student at Vista Preparatory Academy.
The school also added a commons room, where students can relax, work on their homework and use the school's internet.
Students will now have a school mascot, an eagle.
The school held its ribbon cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
