Warm dry weather bringing the sniffles

REDDING, Calif. -

The warm, dry weather is bringing the sniffles with it. If you've got allergies, you might be feeling it right now.

Redding Allergy and Asthma Care has seen a spike in people coming in complaining that they're suffering as much as they do in the summer.

Board Certified Specialist Dr. Ronald Renard said the problem is the pollen in the air.

Trees are bringing it into the valley and since there's been no rain it hasn't been washed out.

Dr. Renard said there are some things you can do:

  • Keep windows closed.
  • If your pets go outside, wipe them down before they come in.
  • If you suffer from allergies, take medicine for it on a daily basis. Claritin and Allegra are often recommended.

"A lot of the pollen that would get washed away from the fall pollen season is still hanging around in the wind,” said Dr. Renard. “Some people don't expect to have allergies this time of the year they put away their allergy medicines and really don't think about taking something to prevent allergies until they already are having problems."

Doctors recommend to stay away from Benadryl during the day which can make you drowsy.
