Water rescue training on Feather River

Gridley, CALIF. -

CAL FIRE and the California Army National Guard were among nine state agencies conducting joint water rescue training exercises on Thursday at the Thermalito Afterbay near Afterbay's Larkin Road launch ramp.

This special training involved teams of water rescuers and helicopters from CAL FIRE and the National Guard, many of whom traveled from throughout the state to participate in the week-long advanced water rescue training.

The training exercise included a simulated flood exercise, deploying rescuers to the fictitious town of "Nino" by boat and helicopter where they completed a series of flood rescues and evacuations preparing simulated victims for transport to safety.

The training is designed to enhance the level of training for both rescuers and pilots and increase the interoperability between agencies.
