Waterworks fire declared arson

REDDING, Calif -

Redding Firefighters said the fire that caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage at Waterworks Park was arson.

The fire started around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Waterworks surveillance video showed someone walking into the park and setting the dragon slide on fire.

General Manager Rebecca Ortiz said whoever did it cut a hole through the fence to get inside. Ortiz also said that the dragon slide had also been vandalized about two weeks ago.

“Hopefully we will have enough time to rebuild and get another slide up there before we open in three months,” said Ortiz. “It’s really sad that someone would come in and do that. It's a ride that's only two years old, people haven't even ridden on it yet, so hopefully it doesn't affect us.”
