Clouds and Threat for Rain Remains Today

Showers and scattered thunderstorms throughout today.

A generally weak impulse is moving over northern California right now.  This system will drop a little bit of rain for much of the NorthState but won’t put down a lot of it.  Redding (as of this writing) has seen only 1/100th of an inch of rain and Red Bluff has picked up trace amounts.  Chico hasn’t even seen rain yet and could stay that way all day.  The clouds will remain for most of northern California as the system moves through.  Your best chance for sun will be Corning and south where the sun might peak through for a little bit, but will quickly be swallowed up again.

Later this week a few more weak systems will move overhead.  They’ll get here Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning and another one Wednesday into Thursday morning.  The first system is a cold front from a storm which will impact the Pacific Northwest.  Unfortunately most of the moisture from this system will be used up moving it over the mountains to our west.  The valley will still see some rain, but it will likely be about a tenth of an inch or so.  There could be some embedded thunderstorms as the front moves through, but most will only see some briefly heavier rain.  None of the thunderstorms that do form will be severe.

The next rain event will be Wednesday into Thursday morning.  Where another system finally gets itself together and pushes onshore.  The bulk of the moisture again misses NorCal to the north, but we could see a couple tenths out of this storm.  I don’t expect any thunderstorms to for Wednesday night into Thursday.
