Mild Temperatures and Sunny Skies Today, Showers Possible Wed/Thurs
Sunny and mild today, more clouds roll in with showers possible Wednesday and Thursday.
High pressure is in store for northern California today. You might see a few passing clouds here and there, but it’ll be predominantly sunny. There are a few systems waiting in the wings for Wednesday and Thursday that will bring the chance for showers into the valley. The best chance for more than a sprinkle will be in the mountains on both sides of the valley. This system really doesn’t have much moisture associated with it and the air in the valley is very very dry still. That means the mountains may pick up a tenth of an inch of rain, and the valley likely won’t see much of any. At the highest elevations – above 5,000 feet – some areas might see 1-2 inches of snow.
The sunshine returns for Friday before a third system rolls in Saturday. That one will have more upper level support and has the chance for bringing a little more rain to northern California. The models have started to come into agreement on this system and both the Euro and GFS models are indicating .10-.25 inches of rain for Redding. The storm’s center is up near Seattle which means the front will be pretty weak and won’t have too much moisture associated with it by the time it rolls into Chico. The mountains east of Chico may pick up a decent amount of rain with orographic forcing. We’ll keep a close eye on it as this system continues to develop.
