Mostly Cloudy and Cool with Shower Possible in the Valley
Clouds are overspreading the region today, chance for showers tonight.
Another system will miss northern California to our north and will drag the tail end of its front through the area. That front will move through late afternoon today and will cause showers in the mountains to our west which will progressively move to the east through the afternoon. Temperatures will be held down by the high and mid level clouds throughout the day so don’t expect highs to climb much higher than 60°. The best chances for showers in the valley will be in the late afternoon to early evening as the front passes through.
Thursday another weak system passes to our north which will keep the clouds around and the temperatures near their normal level for this time of year. Friday has a weak ridge building in which will bring the sun back out for a bit before Saturday rolls in. Saturday will see our next rain producer in northern California. That storm will have the combination of proximity and dynamics on its side this time and will produce enough rain for it to be measurable in the valley. Don’t expect a huge storm though, the most we’ll be getting is somewhere in the area of 1/10th to ¼ of an inch. That much rain unfortunately won’t do much to help our drought as it will likely be sucked up by plants desperate for rain and/or absorbed by the ground.
The downside to the rain moving in is that right behind it the west coast ridge that’s dominated our weather for the past year or so builds right back in. That will kick the winds up right out of the north which will act as a desiccant and will dry out any of our hard earned rain that didn’t get absorbed by the vegetation.
