Weather Forecast: Chance of Showers Today

Published On: May 08 2014 08:19:28 AM CDT   Updated On: May 08 2014 12:16:29 PM CDT

A weak system will bring clouds, cooler afternoon highs and a chance of showers to the Northstate today.

The clouds will be on the increase on today as the next storm approaches.  The best chance for any measurable rain will be closer to the evening hours but at this point we are only expecting a few hundredths of an inch of rain.  There may be just enough instability for a stray thunderstorm but without any breaks in the clouds it may be difficult for any storm development.  It will also be on the breezy side with south winds at 10-15 mph and gusts over 20 mph.

We'll see a few lingering showers into Friday but the valley floor should begin to clear out.

An "inside slider" will clip the Northstate Saturday evening into Saturday night.  As usual, expect the north winds picking up as high pressure spills back into the Northstate Sunday.

The ridge of high pressure will begin to amplify heading into next week.  The higher resolution Euro and GEFS model both push highs to near 100 degrees for the valley floor by Tuesday and Wednesday.  I think this may a bit on the warm side and currently I am leaning closer to the mid to upper 90s.
