When moving into a new home you are likely to have a bunch of questions. Who better to ask than the people that previously lived there? Take a look at some questions you should ask your new home’s previous owners before moving in.

Has the value increased? Ask the previous owners how much the property value has increased or decreased since they’ve moved in. Also ask them how long they’ve lived there.

What’s the energy bill? You need to know how much to budget for the heating and cooling of your house. Ask the previous owners how much their average monthly energy bill was.

What regular, routine maintenance did they perform on the house? Ask the owners how frequently the house needs to be painted, how old the appliances are (including the HVAC system) and if there are any recurring maintenance issues.

How sound is the home’s structure? Ask if the house ever floods, how old the roof is, and if there are any ongoing plumbing or electrical problems. This will let you know if you need to prepare for any pricey repairs in the near future.

How’s the neighborhood? Ask the previous owners about your soon-to-be neighbors. Are there any issues you need to know about? How many kids are in the area? Is there a park nearby? What are the schools like? Are there any noise issues, like airplanes or trains you should be aware of?
